I thought as its a new year and a new time for me to update this blog more often, i’ve decided to change the theme. Hope you like it.
I’ve also just finished my tax (yes the deadline was 31st jan) which is bit of weight off my shoulders, although it’s also a massive dent in my bank account! As it was for 08-09 which has been my best year the tax is hefty.
Just thought i’d post this quickly, anyone know what percentage of rent you can put against tax ?

Don’t you have an accountant to do it for you, ask them seeing as you pay them
yep, just waiting to hear back from him about it, just thought id ask on here too
Do you plan to keep this site updated? I sure hope so… its great!
The proportion of living costs for home offices is something I’d like to know more about, I do my own accounts as I’m still only doing a minimal amount of trading and haven’t factored any of it in yet.
Hi Max, I was able to claim a percentage of the interest on my mortgage, basically the amount of rooms minus kitchen and bathrooms, I’m sure that will be the same for rent, you could ask Keith on A4u, (who’s your accountant?) Cheers Mally
The percentage of rent / ultilities etc claimed is normally determined by the percentage of the property used by business. Bit late now I know, but might help someone.
@Mally It’s not often seen as a good idea to claim a percentage of a mortgage however – further down the line you may be liable to CGT on any increase in the value of the property.
